Shetland Academic Recognised for Contribution to Island Studies

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Dr Andrew Jennings of the Institute for Northern Studies and the Centre for Island Creativity at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) Shetland for being awarded the title of Associate Professor by the UHI; understands that Dr Jennings has worked at UHI since 2009 and is internationally recognised for his work on islands studies, having presented at conferences around the world and contributed to numerous academic papers, books and reports, including leading the production of the Pan-Island Survey of the Creative Economy in the Outer Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland commissioned by the Comhairle nan Eilean and Highlands and Islands Enterprise; further understands that Dr Jennings contributes to student learning through supervising PhD students and developing UHI’s MLitt in Island Studies; considers that the award of title of Associate Professor recognises the importance of Dr Jennings’s contributions to the field of island studies; commends Dr Jennings for his research and teaching work, and wishes him all the best in his future career.
