COP27 Baton Relay Reaches Sharm el-Sheikh
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the runners who participated in the Running Out of Time Relay, which reached its completion on 8 November 2022 at the COP27 meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt; recognises what it sees as the outstanding commitment and achievement of the organisation in marshalling participants across the relay’s 7,767 km journey; commends all the volunteers who ensured safe passage for the baton through its 39 stages in Scotland, from Glasgow to Gretna, including passing through South Lanarkshire and outside Grow 73 in Rutherglen, where local young people and children turned out in great numbers; understands that the relay was supported by over 750,000 pupils in 2,129 schools across 104 countries as part of the Global Schools Action Day on 3 November 2022; believes that this marks the strength of belief among young people that future generations will bear the burden of climate change, and calls on all parties at COP27 to observe the anxieties and aspirations of activists in their negotiations.
