Celebrating Kirkshaws Neighbourhood Centre

The motion

That the Parliament considers that, for nearly 30 years, the Kirkshaws Neighbourhood Centre has been an incredibly vital community asset in the constituency of Coatbridge and Chryston; notes that the centre’s strategic objectives are focused on providing recreational activities, tackling poverty, to help people in need in the community, and promoting citizens’ rights throughout the community; commends the centre for realising these aims through a number of initiatives such as providing childcare facilities, hosting a community café, facilitating IT classes, holding cookery classes, operating employability programmes, and running a number of sports and fitness classes throughout the week; applauds the centre for also acting as a host to many other community organisations such as Bazooka Arts, Cool School Uniforms, Hope2Help Benefits Advisory Agency, Routes to Work Outreach Programme and a self-help support group; acknowledges that the recent opening of a community fridge that will act as a support for those to access low-cost food and bakery items; understands that the centre is a host organisation for what it sees as the vital Free Period Products initiative, which includes free delivery of period products for those who cannot commute to the centre, and appreciates that the centre’s important work is supported by numerous funders, such as North Lanarkshire Council, the Scottish Government, The Big Lottery, Warburtons, Co-op, Amazon, Neighbourly, Asda, Arnold Clark, Corra Foundation and Robertsons Trust.
