Alive Radio Secures Permanent Home in Dumfries
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the initiative of Dumfries and Galloway Council in gifting Alive Community Radio, in return for £1, the Lochside Enterprise Workshops, which is a council property; understands that Alive Community Radio is a registered Scottish charity, run by a management team and dedicated volunteers who have been with Alive 107.3 for many years; notes that the charitable purposes of the station are to advance community development and citizenship through the medium of the community radio station by encouraging the involvement and promotion of community organisations and events, to advance educational attainment by offering training and work experience in all of the roles involved in running a community radio station and the advancement of the arts, heritage, culture and science; understands that this community asset transfer was supported by the Nithsdale area committee and that the radio station, which was the only organisation using the Workshops, has invested in the property over the last two years; concurs with the reported statement issued by the station that “an unused, unloved building is now being used for the benefit of Dumfries’ local community radio charity and the community it broadcasts to”; and wishes the station, all its staff and volunteers, many more years of broadcasting reflecting the interests and concerns of the local community.
