Lanarkshire Larder Hosting a Cooking Competition for Pupils Using Local Produce

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates regional food group, Lanarkshire Larder, for establishing a cooking competition for young chefs using quality Lanarkshire produce; understands that the competition, which is open to S1 to S3 pupils across Lanarkshire, involves pupils creating recipes using one or more ingredients produced by Lanarkshire Larder members, with the three finalists being invited to take part in a Ready, Steady, Cook-style finale during which they will be asked to incorporate three ingredients in their signature dishes; further understands that the winning recipe will feature on the Lanarkshire Larder website and be served in one of Lanarkshire Larder’s member eateries or farm shops; acknowledges that, as part of the competition, students will explore the benefits of sourcing local produce, which include reducing food miles and supporting local business; understands that Lanarkshire Larder membership includes food and drink producers, restaurants, cafés, hotels and farm shops, each of whom share a passion about the provenance and quality of the products that they make or sell and collectively promote Lanarkshire as a culinary centre of excellence; applauds the pupils participating in the competition, and wishes them all well as they create mouth-watering recipes using the very best of Lanarkshire produce.
