1.5C and Rosebank Oil Field

That the Parliament considers that, if governments are serious about tackling the climate emergency, no new oil and gas licences should be approved as this would, it believes, risk the chance of achieving the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global warming to below 1.5C; understands that the proposed Rosebank oil field is three times larger than the Cambo oil field opposed in 2021 by the Scottish Government; further understands that Rosebank would produce the same emissions that the 28 lowest income countries generate in a single year; believes that there is no climate compatibility checkpoint assessment possible that would allow any new oil field to be approved without putting the UK and Scottish governments' net zero targets at risk; urges the UK Government and its Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to refuse permission for the Rosebank oil field and any other new oil and gas fields, and calls on the Scottish Government to publicly oppose the proposed Rosebank oil field, as it did previously in relation to proposals for the Cambo oil field.
