World AIDS Day 2022
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that 1 December 2022 is World AIDS Day and stands in solidarity with the millions of people living with HIV globally; remembers all who have died from AIDS-related illnesses; understands that, if on the right treatment, a person living with HIV cannot pass the virus on; believes that, despite progress, Scotland must do more to reduce and end HIV transmissions by 2030; highlights the need to end HIV-related stigma based on what it considers outdated and harmful beliefs about the virus; understands that stigma is one of the biggest barriers to testing for HIV and urges everyone to get tested whether it is through free and confidential services at NHS sexual health clinics, charity testing services, GP surgeries, their local pharmacies or self-testing at home, and offers its support to the organisations involved with World AIDS Day, including Waverley Care, the Terrence Higgins Trust and the National AIDS Trust, and their work to get Scotland to zero new transmissions by 2030.
