The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Richard Sanders, an advanced nurse practitioner at NHS Orkney, on being awarded the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse; understands that Richard was awarded the title on 2 December 2022 by Chief Nursing Officer Professor Alex McMahon, after being selected alongside twenty other community nurses earlier this year to take part in a nine-month development programme run by the Queen’s Nursing Institute Scotland (QNIS); further understands that Richard was nominated for the dedication and exceptional care that he provides to his local community in Eday and his tenacity in promoting new strategies; notes that Queen’s Nursing was established in 1889 following Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee and was reintroduced by QNIS in 2017 after a break of almost 50 years to support the development of community nursing; commends Richard on what it sees as this well-earned recognition of his skills and commitment to patients and community alike, and wishes him all the very best for the future.
