Doon Academy Launches New Skills Academy

The motion

That the Parliament commends all at Doon Academy on the development and launch of the school’s new Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Skills Academy; notes that the projects are set to be delivered by college lecturers or teachers as part of the curriculum and incorporated into the pupils' school timetable; understands that the new academy is set to help develop pupils' vocational, employability and life skills; further understands that the DYW Doon Skills Academy has launched two new projects, "Doon n’ Play", which is a childcare initiative, and "Doonies", a horticultural and rural skills initiative; acknowledges that Doon Academy currently runs two projects launched in 2019, The Flask, which is a community café run by pupils who have undergone barista training, and Divine, a community health and wellbeing centre and spa experience; believes that The Flask and Divine projects will be included as part of the DYW Doon Skills Academy; considers that this as a great initiative by supporting young people to prepare for the world of work after leaving education, and wishes all involved the very best and continued success on what it sees as an incredible initiative.
