The motion

That the Parliament commends Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland on its Health Defenceprogramme in Glasgow, delivered in conjunction with Glasgow Life, which, itunderstands, supports people in Maryhill and Drumchapel to make positivechanges to support their health and wellbeing, and that it has provided over ahundred health checks to the community over its first six months; notes that3,500 people across Scotland regularly participate in walking football, withsessions available across Scotland from Shetland to Gretna and from Campbeltownacross to Dunbar; recognises the opportunities that it believes walkingfootball presents in helping to maintain an active lifestyle and stayingphysically healthy, in returning to football after health events, injury orage, and in providing important social opportunities; considers that heartattack and stroke are still more common in low Scottish Index of MultipleDeprivation (SIMD) communities than in more affluent ones, and that mortalityis higher for these conditions in low SIMD communities; recognises thepotential for both walking football and Health Defence Scotland to benefit evenmore communities across Scotland, and looks forward to it growing further inthe months and years to come.
