A Decade of BASF Pharma (Callanish)
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates BASF on marking 10 years since it acquired the BASF Pharma (Callanish) site in the Isle of Lewis; notes that BASF Pharma (Callanish) is a global leader in manufacturing highly-concentrated omega-3 fatty acids used in pharmaceutical applications, more specifically to treat cardiovascular diseases; further notes that these products are exported all over the world from North America to Asia; understands that the site has enjoyed substantial investment in recent years, most recently with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) investing up to £1.8 million to create a new warehouse, providing much-needed storage capacity to support the company’s growth development plans; welcomes what it sees as the positive impact the company has had on the local economy, with the site acting as a hub for a highly skilled and innovative workforce now standing at some 80 people; commends BASF Pharma (Callanish) for its focus on sustainability with, it understands, the site having ambitious plans to further reduce its carbon footprint as the company looks to transition to net zero CO2 emissions by 2050, and wishes BASF Pharma (Callanish) the best of success for the next 10 years.
