Drugs Testing Facilities

That the Parliament expresses its sadness at the news of the tragic death of Maya Nager; notes from reports that she passed away aged 19 after falling ill at the Terminal V festival at the Royal Highland Centre, and that she is believed to have ingested a substance in the hours leading up to her death; believes that her loved ones knew her as a compassionate and vivacious person, and passes on its condolences to her family and friends; considers that the Royal Highland Centre endeavours to uphold the highest standards of safety at events that it holds; further considers that venues must be given more support in order to achieve this, and therefore recommends the introduction of drugs testing facilities; notes reports of the success of such schemes already in place in England and Wales, where it understands that almost one in five users disposed of their drugs once aware of the content; advocates a shift towards what it sees as a compassionate public health approach that focusses on harm reduction, and considers drugs checking facilities to be crucial for such an approach, and calls upon the Scottish Government and Police Scotland to swiftly work towards their implementation.
