The motion

As an amendment to motion S6M-07301 in the name of Finlay Carson (Long and Short Term Improvements Required on A75), insert at end "; welcomes the STPR2 recommendations, which include that the A75 and A77 would benefit from improving junctions and enhancing overtaking opportunities, which it considers may include climbing lanes at appropriate locations where slow moving traffic leads to risky overtaking manoeuvres, and also widening or realigning carriageways, which it considers may alleviate pinch points, such as narrow structures, or at stretches of older standard single carriageway; highlights that, specifically on the A75, the STPR2 also recommends realigning the road around the villages of Springholm and Crocketford and improving the road around the Cuckoo Bridge Roundabout; notes the view that the Scottish Government, as soon as is practicable, should set out a firm timetable for when the recommendations within the STPR2 for the A75 will be taken forward, so that constituents across the south west of Scotland know when to expect shovels in the ground to take forward the improvements that it believes are necessary to improve the safety and efficiency of the A75 and A77 arterial routes, and further notes the view that the Scottish Government should provide an update on its dialogue with the UK Government’s Department for Transport regarding how much funding will come to it to carry out further enhancements to the A75, as recommended in the UK Government's Union Connectivity Review."
