The motion

That the Parliament recognises that the Orkney Christmas Tractor Run, which took place on 29 December 2022, raised over £24,000 for the Orkney Blide Trust and Orkney Heart Support Group; understands that a record-breaking 179 agricultural vehicles from across the isles adorned with Christmas lights and displays took part in the 14-mile procession in Kirkwall, including past the Balfour Hospital, with smaller runs taking place in Stromness, Burray and St Margaret's Hope; commends Graham Nicholson and Steven Sinclair for organising another hugely successful and impressive Christmas cavalcade following last year's inaugural event; understands that Sanday held its first tractor run on 28 December, organised by James Muir, where 24 vehicles helped raise over £600 for a new community defibrillator; highlights the mini tractor run that took place in Smiddybrae Care Home, organised by Alison Ritch, which saw a display of pedal and battery tractors adorned in lights by local children for the residents; praises the outstanding generosity of the Orkney public and numerous local businesses for fundraising another fantastic total for local charities; believes that the tractor run demonstrated the very best of community spirit and the importance of the farming sector in Orkney once again, and expresses its thanks for the support of the Orkney Agricultural Society, all those who participated in what it considers to be the largest event of its kind in Scotland, and all those who donated towards this very worthy cause, which will make a significant difference for mental health and healthcare in Orkney.
