The Scottish Premiere of SEVEN

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the Scottish premiere of SEVEN, which took place on 8 December 2022 at the Scottish Parliament to mark International Human Rights Day, which is observed annually on 10 December; understands that SEVEN is a piece of documentary theatre that tells the true stories of seven women who bravely fought for the well-being of women, families, and children around the globe in Russia, Cambodia, Guatemala, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Pakistan and Northern Ireland; notes that SEVEN has been seen by over 25,000 people in 32 countries and has been translated into 20 languages; commends the 22 women involved in the project, who, it understands, are all human rights activists in their local communities, are diverse in terms of their ages, background and experiences and have various focuses, including disability access, food poverty, racial justice, education, housing rights and mental health stigma and exclusion; understands that SEVEN was developed and presented by Making Rights Real, which is a Scottish grassroots human rights organisation, as a catalyst for change within the participants’ own lives and communities, and wishes everyone involved continued success in their future endeavours.
