The Gendered Impacts of the Use of Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas

The motion

That the Parliament applauds the Scottish Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) for hosting a discussion on the gendered impacts of the use of explosive weapons in populated areas, during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence; notes that the discussion focused on the use of explosive weapons in populated areas, which, it understands, causes tens of thousands of civilian deaths and many more injuries each year; recognises what it sees as the importance of looking at all forms of violence in the world, and believes that the impacts of war are both immediate and long-lasting, causing persistent patterns of harm; believes that the destruction of infrastructure and loss of life affect marginalised women uniquely because, it considers, they experience limited access to the labour market, administrative services, health care, and education as their needs are often overlooked; stresses what it sees as the importance of including women, especially women in marginalised groups, in the decision-making process in the aftermath of conflict to better address their needs; thanks Scottish WILPF for hosting a fantastic event, and wishes everyone involved continued success in the future.
