Big Noise Raploch: Positive Impact on Young People

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes publication of the latest independent evaluation by the Glasgow Centre for Population Health (GCPH) showing, it understands, the significant positive impact that Sistema Scotland’s Big Noise has had on young people in Raploch over the past 15 years; understands that this quantitative study found that almost all (98%) Big Noise participants achieved a positive post-school destination compared to 84% of young people who had not taken part; further understands that this is the first analysis of the long-term outcomes of the programme in Raploch, building on multiple earlier reports of short and medium-term positive impacts; notes that Big Noise is a high-quality music education and social change programme delivered across Scotland; considers that the Big Noise programme plays a vital role in tackling poverty and disadvantage in targeted communities by promoting education, wellbeing, healthy behaviours, positive choices and a range of opportunities for children and young people from babies up to 18+ years old; notes that Big Noise is supporting around 3,500 children and young people across Scotland; believes that the cost of living is putting more pressure on families across the country; reflects on the findings of the report, and supports action to enable more children and young people to take part in the programme.
