The Tron Theatre

That the Parliament notes with concern news that Glasgow’s Tron Theatre has had its funding from Glasgow City Council removed; understands that Glasgow City Council has been providing funding to the theatre for over three decades; recognises what it sees as the role of the Tron Theatre in contributing to Glasgow’s cultural vibrancy, and that it is currently enjoying a particularly successful period of attendance and critical acclaim; believes that the decision to remove funding from the theatre will have a significant impact on what the theatre can achieve and the number of staff that it can employ, and urges Glasgow City Council to remember Glasgow’s rich history as a city of culture and reconsider its decision to defund what it considers as this important institution.
