Remembering Tom Nairn
The motion
That the Parliament notes with great regret the death of the Scottish political theorist, Tom Nairn; further notes what it sees as the exceptional impact of his work, including as a contributor to the New Left Review and latterly openDemocracy, through his books, The Left Against Europe? (1973), The Break Up of Britain (1977) and The Enchanted Glass (1988), in introducing the ideas of Antonio Gramsci to analysis of the British state and in developing these ideas in relation to nationalism in Scotland and around the world, and, it believes, becoming perhaps the world's foremost theorist of nationalisms, and extends its condolences to Tom’s friends and family.
