Mearns Castle High Achieves School Mental Health Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Mearns Castle High on becoming the first school in Scotland to receive the gold standard for the School Mental Health award; welcomes the efforts that have taken place at the school to look after the wellbeing of pupils and staff, and with the establishment of a wellbeing hub to provide one-to-one support and group activities; acknowledges that confirmation that Mearns Castle High had achieved the commendation of being the first school in Scotland to be awarded the gold standard was received on the same day that the school launched a new mission underpinned by the motto "Be Your Best", in order to highlight the important and holistic focus placed on wellbeing alongside wider achievement, skills development and academic attainment; notes that the School Mental Health Award was established in 2017 by the Carnegie Centre of Excellence for Mental Health in Schools, part of Leeds Beckett University, and social enterprise, Minds Ahead; commends Mearns Castle High for what it sees as the vital importance that the school attaches to the mental health and wellbeing of pupils and staff, and congratulates the school for becoming the first in Scotland to receive this award.
