Amy Laurenson Named BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates the success of Amy Laurenson, who has been named the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2023; understands that Amy, who grew up in Shetland and studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, competed against five other musicians at the Celtic Connections event in Glasgow; further understands that the 23-year-old impressed judges with her skills on the piano and was crowned the winner of the 2023 competition; considers that this prestigious award has been a launchpad for many of Scotland’s well-known traditional musicians; congratulates Amy on what it sees as a significant achievement, and wishes her all the very best going forward in her career.
