Port Glasgow New Parish Celebrates 200th Anniversary

The motion

That the Parliament joins Port Glasgow New Parish in celebrating its 200th anniversary; notes that the church has proudly stood at the centre of the town since 1823, initially named Port Glasgow Parish Church, then St Andrew’s Parish Church, before becoming Port Glasgow New Parish in late 2019 after St Andrew’s united with Port Glasgow St Martin’s; understands that a whole host of events are being planned for the next 12 months to mark the milestone, which were kicked off first by a visit from the Moderator Rt Rev Dr Iain Greenshields, and that Minister William Boyle is planning to bury a time capsule in the church; further understands that the church is used every single day by a wide variety of church and community groups, and people of all ages, highlighting that it remains an asset to Port Glasgow, and wishes the congregation and the wider community all the best as they celebrate this significant birthday and continue to play a key role in Port Glasgow.
