Congratulating Sir Geoff Palmer
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the work of Sir Geoff Palmer and the independent Steering Group on Empire, Slavery and Scotland's Museums; notes that the Steering Group has made six recommendations, based on national consultation; recognises that the recommendations include one that states that Scotland should create a dedicated space to address its role in empire, colonialism and historic slavery; notes its agreement to motion S5M-22004 (as amended) in 2020, which supported the establishment of a slavery museum to address Scotland's historic links to the slave trade; commends the Steering Group on Empire, Slavery and Scotland's Museums for its recognition of the historic ties between Scotland's cultural landscape, colonialism and empire, and looks forward to a time when the Steering Group's recommendations are considered, recognised and implemented by the Scottish Government.
