Coronation Honour for Aberdeen University Professor

The motion

That the Parliament commends Paul Mealor, Professor of Composition at Aberdeen University, for being chosen by His Majesty The King to commission a new musical piece for the Coronation, set to take place on 6 May 2023; understands that Paul is one of only a handful of living composers who have been given the honour of creating compositions for the historic event at Westminster Abbey; notes that Paul has worked at the university since 2003, and studied composition privately at the University of York and in Copenhagen; further notes that Paul has held visiting professorships in composition at institutions in Scandinavia and the United States, and wishes Paul and his fellow composers all the best for what should be a truly memorable day.
