The motion

That the Parliament welcomes No Smoking Day on 8 March 2023; understands that Action on Smoking and Health (Scotland), a health charity, is encouraging people who smoke to "Quit and Win" through accessing expert person-centred support from Scotland’s cessation services, which are free on the NHS; recognises the health benefits of giving up smoking, including improved circulation within three months after quitting, as well as decreased risks of coronary heart disease and lung cancer of about 50%, when compared with a current smoker, after one year and 10 years, respectively; appreciates that an average household in Scotland of people smoking would save an estimated £3,308 within a year by giving up, and urges the two thirds of people who smoke but want to quit to call the free Quit Your Way helpline on 0800 848484, or create a quit plan at QuitYourWay.scot, to progress their personal, and Scotland’s, journey towards becoming tobacco-free by 2034.
