DC Thomson Redundancies

That the Parliament condemns the reported announcement of 300 redundancies by Dundee-based publisher, DC Thomson; understands that this amounts to almost 19% of its total workforce, with the closure of several titles and cuts in editorial staffing in its remaining titles; regrets reports that 16 of the company's 18 photographers have been informed that their positions are at risk; considers that this is an unnecessary way to “reshape its portfolio”, given reports that, in the year to March 2022, the company's revenue rose by 7.3% to £174 million, and that, in the same year, it reportedly awarded £24 million to its family owners; understands that the company does not formally recognise the National Union of Journalists, despite, it believes, having a number of members among its staff; calls on DC Thomson to formally recognise the National Union of Journalists and withdraw the redundancy proposals, and further calls on the company to consult formally with the National Union of Journalists, with a view to ending what it considers to be the unnecessary stress and anxiety that the company has caused within its workforce.
