Solidarity with Yemen
The motion
That the Parliament recognises with concern the reported ongoing devastation of the conflict in Yemen, which has repeatedly been named one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world since the Saudi Arabia-led coalition first launched airstrikes into Yemen in March 2015; notes the current legal challenge presented to the UK Government by Campaign Against Arms Trade on the licensing of arms to Saudi Arabia; further notes that arms sales are prohibited by UK rules where there is a clear risk that a weapon might be used in a serious violation of international humanitarian law; understands that Scottish Enterprise continues to provide public funding and logistical support to arms companies that reportedly manufacture military components used in the conflict in Yemen, and urges the Scottish Government to introduce further safeguards to ensure that public funding is not used to enable what it considers human rights violations, and what it sees as potential war crimes, in Yemen and other conflicts around the world.
