International Women's Day 2023

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that International Women’s Day, on 8 March 2023, is a day that honours the achievements of women across the world; believes that this day presents a unique opportunity to raise awareness about important issues facing women and to promote initiatives that will work towards creating a world where women are valued and their contributions are fully recognised; advocates for policies and initiatives that it considers will help to close the gender pay gap and promote economic equality for women, such as increasing access to education and training, promoting women’s entrepreneurship and implementing family-friendly workplace policies; promotes women’s leadership and participation in all areas of society, including politics, business and academia; encourages all members of society to be active allies in the work for gender equality, including challenging sexist attitudes and behaviours, promoting gender-sensitive language, and supporting women’s leadership, and recognises the contributions and struggles of women around the world that work towards creating a world where women are valued, respected and fully empowered to reach their potential.
