Bishopbriggs Resident Raises £7,000 for Cure Crohn's Colitis Charity in Scotland
The motion
That Parliament congratulates Strathkelvin and Bearsden constituent, Pat Gair, of Bishopbriggs, on raising the impressive sum of £7,000 for Scottish-based charity, Cure Crohn’s Colitis (C3), set up to fund research into Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, two forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD); understands that Pat became a volunteer with the charity after a young member of her family developed Crohn’s disease; commends Pat for raising the funds over several years through numerous fund-raising events including auctions, bucket collections, selling hand-made arts and crafts, and her own personal donations; understands that Cure Crohn’s Colitis gives 100% of its funds to patient-centric IBD research; further understands that Cure Crohn’s Colitis is made up entirely of volunteers who either have IBD or know someone who has the debilitating and life-threatening chronic illness; believes that there is a pressing need to improve what it sees as the fairly limited range of IBD treatment options available, which also do not always give relief to people with IBD, and to better understand the mechanisms that cause Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis; understands that, according to latest research, Scotland has the highest proportion of the population in the UK living with IBD, with one in 103 people in Scotland affected, and commends Cure Crohn’s Colitis for its work to help find the cause of IBD and ultimately a cure.
