Julie-Ann Murray is Scotland's Apprentice of the Year
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the success of Julie-Ann Murray on being named Scotland's Apprentice of the Year 2023; understands that the 21-year-old farmer, from North Roe in Shetland, earned the title at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards ceremony, where she also won the Modern Apprentice of the Year award in the SCQF Level 5 category; understands that Julie-Ann wanted to stay on the Shetland Islands to work and gain qualifications, so she asked a local farmer to take her on as an apprentice; further understands that she now works as an apprentice on the local farm, which she often runs by herself, tending to a flock of up to 1,000 sheep, while also studying at the University of the Highlands and Islands; notes that her employer, Pat Johnson, describes Julie-Ann as a "real asset" to the farm, with Julie-Ann saying that the apprenticeship has given her "so much confidence" in doing what she loves every day; congratulates Julie on what it sees as a significant achievement, and wishes her the very best in her future career.
