Orkney Library & Archive Selected for Lend and Mend Hub

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Orkney Library & Archive on being selected as one of the first sites in Scotland to host a Lend and Mend Hub, as part of a pilot project helping to tackle the cost of living crisis; understands that the initiative is funded by the John Lewis Partnership’s Circular Future Fund and seeks to establish a network of circular community hubs across the country, which provide free access to repair, reuse, rent and upcycle everyday items; further understands that the initiative will provide the introduction of training sessions and educational workshops to allow people to gain skills and develop knowledge to help promote the environmental benefits of a circular economy; acknowledges what it sees as the many brilliant circular economy initiatives already taking place in Orkney, including by ReStart Orkney, Kirsteen Stewart and Orkney ZeroWaste; commends the award-winning and internationally-acclaimed Orkney Library & Archive for its ongoing innovative efforts to raise awareness of what local libraries and archives have to offer and to open up new ways of accessing these services, and wishes everyone involved all the very best in launching their Lend and Mend Hub later in 2023.
