Glasgow’s Innovation Accelerator, Funding for 11 Projects
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the recent announcement by the UK Government Department for Science, Innovation and Technology that 11 ambitious local projects in Glasgow have been selected to receive a share of £100 million of Levelling Up funding under the UK Innovation Accelerator Programme; understands that the 11 chosen accelerator projects in Glasgow will address local economic challenges, as well as national and global societal and environmental issues; notes that a local partnership of business, public sector and academic institutions led on selecting the 11 project proposals, working alongside Innovate UK; understands that the Glasgow City region is one of three pilot areas across the UK sharing in funding to support the creation of major, globally competitive centres for research and innovation; welcomes investment in the Glasgow innovation economy and considers that such investment is helping Glasgow to become a world-class hub of research and design in satellite manufacturing, net-zero manufacturing, life sciences, digital design, and photonics, quantum and associated technologies, which it considers is growing businesses, accelerating further investment and creating new career opportunities, and notes that further details on the programme and projects will be released when the programme formally begins in mid-May 2023.
