Celebrating Pakistan Day 2023
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges 23 March 2023 as the anniversary of the signing of both the Lahore Resolution by the Muslim League at the Minar-e-Pakistan calling for the creation of an independent sovereign state, and the enforcement of the Constitution of Pakistan; understands that the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution of Pakistan on 29 February 1956, and that it was enforced on 23 March 1956, transitioning Pakistan from a dominion to become the first Islamic republic; further understands that from this date, 23 March has been celebrated as Pakistan Day; notes that the Consul General of the Republic of Pakistan for Scotland and Northern Ireland will hoist the Pakistani flag at the Consulate of Pakistan on the day; welcomes what it sees as the progress of Pakistan as a democratic country and extends its good wishes to all Pakistanis in Scotland, and across the world, in marking Pakistan Day.
