The motion

That the Parliament congratulates all involved in the Zumba Fundraiser, held at Bowhouse Community Centre, Grangemouth, on 3 March 2023, on raising in excess of £2,000 for the Scottish Association of Mental Health (SAMH); notes that this event was held in memory of Michelle Watt, a fellow Zumba instructor and friend of many of the participants, who was sadly lost to them in 2015; understands that the organisers wished particularly to highlight the impact of hidden mental health difficulties, noting that Michelle Watt was known widely as an extremely confident, successful and inspirational young woman who, in their own words, “was a shining light, who lit up every room she entered”; notes what it considers to be the valuable work that SAMH undertakes, in particular its current Ask Them About Suicide campaign, which was launched in its 100th year of supporting the mental health of individuals and communities across Scotland; congratulates the organisers, led by Carol Ure, on their efforts to highlight this important topic, while providing support for members of the community who have been affected by loss as a result of suicide, and wishes them all the best for the future, including in their regular fundraising events.
