Restoration of Pollok Stables in Glasgow

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the restoration work currently underway to preserve and protect the Pollok Stables in Glasgow’s Pollok Park for future generations; notes the historic importance of the stables, with some of the footprint of the current collection of buildings dating from around the mid-1500s; thanks the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust for its involvement in the planning stages of the project, as well as what it considers to be its invaluable advice and support on conserving the unique structure; understands that this valuable, £15.5 million, three-year-long project is being jointly funded with £13 million of UK Government Levelling Up funds, a contribution of £1.5 million from Glasgow City Council and that a fundraising endeavour is currently underway to make up the funding shortfall; praises all those involved in this project, which, it believes, will regenerate this site into a net zero carbon heritage centre, self-powered by electric turbines, and further believes that, following the successful refurbishment and re-opening of the nearby Burrell Collection, this project, when complete, will become a valuable addition to Glasgow’s cultural offering.
