Orkney Prop Recognised with Volunteering Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Erland Drever of Orkney RFC, on being joint winner of the Adult Rugby Volunteer of the Season in the Caledonia North region at the 2023 Scottish Rugby Community Recognition Awards; understands that Erland’s work to re-establish a social rugby set-up in Orkney has enjoyed phenomenal success over the past couple of years, with more than 100 male players having taken the opportunity to play regular games scheduled by the Orkney RFC loose-head prop; further understands that Erland has sought to make the club more accessible to islanders by arranging for games to be played in different locations across the Orkney mainland and, of course, on his native island of Westray; commends Erland for his drive, determination and commitment to make Orkney RFC as inclusive and accessible as possible; believes that these efforts have not only renewed enthusiasm for playing rugby, but also offered opportunities for islanders to connect through the club, and help deliver both physical and mental health benefits; congratulates Kelly Bow from Skye RFC, who was the other joint recipient of the award, alongside Erland Drever, and wishes Erland, Kelly and their respective clubs every success in the future and the continued development of club rugby in the islands.
