Hazeldene Family Centre Receives Strong Inspection Report

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Hazeldene Family Centre in Newton Mearns on receiving a strong set of results at a recent Education Scotland inspection; acknowledges that the Hazeldene Family Centre was rated as very good for the two measurements of "ensuring, wellbeing, equality and inclusion" and "securing children's progress"; further acknowledges that the nursery was ranked as good in the categories of "leadership of change" and "learning, teaching and assessment"; notes that the inspection team highlighted a number of strengths in the work of the nursery and that these are effective leadership from the head teacher and leadership team in successfully progressing new working methods, a strong ethos of professional learning that is helping staff to improve their practice, and respectful and caring relationships within the nursery, which is contributing towards a welcoming and supportive atmosphere; further notes that the inspection team also highlighted that senior leaders and staff make effective use of their knowledge of children to a high standard in order to inform their work and all staff support children to feel secure, be curious and make important progress in their education and learning; understands that as part of the visit, inspectors spoke with parents and carers and liaised closely with the head teacher and practitioners; further understands that, following the assessment, Education Scotland have determined that no more visits will be organised as part of the inspection that took place in January 2023, on the basis that the early years centre has the capacity to make continual improvements, and commends all at the Hazeldene Family Centre for receiving such an impressive inspection report and for providing children in Eastwood with a first-class nursery education and learning environment.
