Start Up Stirling Marks 10th Anniversary

The motion

That the Parliament marks the 10th anniversary of the first Start Up Stirling foodbank in Stirling; understands that the initiative was established in 2013 in response to the needs of people across Stirling who were living with food insecurity; believes that demand for its services has never been higher with 124,080 meals provided and 3,682 individuals supported in 2022; considers that, whilst everyone would prefer to see foodbanks close rather than grow, this is an opportunity to thank all the volunteers, trustees, staff, referrers, businesses, supermarkets, grant funders and the wider community for supporting Start Up Stirling to continue its lifeline support to over 400 people across Stirling every week, and calls on the Scottish Government to continue to mitigate against what it sees as the worst impacts of the cost of living crisis and encourages it to continue dialogue with the UK Government to extend support to families to eradicate food insecurity, reduce harms from the cost of living crisis and allow families to thrive rather than struggle to merely survive.
