Innovative Dementia Safeguarding Tag Launched in West Dunbartonshire

Lodged by Marie McNair (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 20 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the launch of a Dementia Safeguarding Tag in West Dunbartonshire, to support anyone living with dementia and their families in the area; understands that there has been a rise in calls from members of the public who have found someone appearing lost, confused or disorientated within their local community, which can often occur with people living with dementia; the new scheme, which uses Near Field Communication (NFC), lets members of the public place their smartphone on the Dementia Safeguarding Tag, and it will display contact information, allowing them to seek help for any vulnerable people that they may find that require assistance; believes that the initiative has been well supported by those living with dementia, along with their families, and those who care for them, and understands that it gives them some peace of mind to know that they would be contacted sooner if their loved one became disorientated, while they were out in their community, and looks forward to seeing it rolled out by Police Scotland across the rest of the country.
