Peterhead Lifeboat Crew Commended for Dramatic Boat Rescue

Lodged by Liam Kerr (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party) Standard Motion 32 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament commends the Peterhead-based Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crew for its heroic rescue mission, which saved the lives of five fishermen on board the Opportunis IV in 2021; understands that the fishing boat had lost power during a violent storm, and was unable to secure a tow line from another fishing vessel; further understands that the crew of the Opportunis IV were towed to the safety of Peterhead harbour by the RNLI Peterhead crew, in tumultuous and dangerous conditions, by navigating a safe route through the shoreline-based rocks; believes that RNLI volunteers, Craig Aird, Murdo Mackenzie, Martyn Simpson, Michael Dyke, Jonathon Hutton, and Cox Patrick Davidson, selflessly put their own safety at risk to help others; notes that each member of the crew received letters of commendation from the RNLI, and sincerely thanks all RNLI volunteers for tirelessly giving up their time for such a selfless cause.
