Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Bill

That the Parliament notes with concern Uganda’s recently-passed Anti-Homosexuality Bill, which, it understands, is being largely seen as one of the toughest pieces of anti-gay legislation in Africa; understands that homosexual acts are already illegal in Uganda but that this bill introduces many new criminal offences, including merely identifying as gay becoming illegal for the first time, and new offences that could lead to the death penalty; believes that there have been many reported incidents of blackmailing, extortion and threats made to the LGBT community in Uganda; expresses its disappointment that individuals or institutions who support LGBT rights, either through funding organisations, publications or broadcasting, also reportedly face prosecution and imprisonment; commends the campaigning efforts of many LGBT+ activists, both in Uganda and across Africa, in raising awareness of what it sees as these aggressive measures; acknowledges that the bill passes to the Ugandan President, who can either choose to use his veto or sign it into law, and sincerely hopes that such a veto is made on this occasion.
