Solidarity with LGBTQ+ People in Uganda
The motion
That the Parliament notes with deep sadness reports of the bill recently passed bythe Ugandan Parliament, which has been referred to by the BBC and others as an"anti-homosexuality bill"; understands that the bill will imposeharsh punishments for some conduct, including life imprisonment and the deathpenalty; further understands that some of the conduct that it criminalisesincludes identifying as LGBTQ+, publication and distribution of pro-LGBTQ+media, and consensual same-sex relationships; expresses its solidarity with allLGBTQ+ Ugandans, who, it believes, are likely to experience considerable fearand threats to their safety; considers this latest move to be part of what itsees as a worrying trend of rising homophobia, biphobia and transphobia aroundthe world in recent years, and believes that all LGBTQ+ people deserve to betreated equally by their governments and to be respected and supported to livesafe, peaceful and loving lives.
