Borders Rugby Star Stuart Hogg Announces his Retirement

The motion

That the Scottish Parliament notes with pride and sadness in equal measure that Scotland rugby star, Stuart Hogg, will be retiring from the game after the World Cup in France in autumn 2023; congratulates him on a remarkable career in club and in international rugby that has seen him play 100 times for his country, becoming only the fourth player to reach this milestone; understands that Stuart Hogg’s rugby journey began in the Borders town of Hawick, and later saw him join three tours with the British and Irish Lions tours; commends him on his many achievements in club and in international rugby, including winning back-to-back Six Nations Player of the Tournament awards, the Pro12 Championship with Glasgow Warriors, alongside the English Premiership and European Cup with Exeter Chiefs; congratulates Stuart Hogg on captaining Scotland to historic victories in London and Paris,  and becoming Scotland’s all-time leading try scorer, and wishes him and his family the best for the future.
