Commending First Bus on Doubling Female Workforce
The motion
That the Parliament commends First Bus, which, it understands, has doubled its female workforce since 2017, and taken what it sees as long-term meaningful action to break down barriers faced by women in male-dominated roles; notes that the Close the Gap report, Positive shifts, persistent problems. A five year analysis of Scottish employer gender pay gap reporting, uses First Bus’s commitments to closing the gender pay gap as an example of positive action taken across recruitment, progression and promotion, and organisational accountability; commends its female development programmes, such as Step up, Step Forward and the Female Intentional Allyship Programme; understands that they have helped enhance female progression and leadership within the company; further understands that over 180 women have participated in the development programmes, Step Up, from which 27% of participants have been promoted into their first line manager roles, and Step Forward, from which 45% of participants have been promoted into more senior roles; considers that closing the gender pay gap is a pertinent aspect to truly achieving equality; applauds all female staff for their work at First Bus, and further applauds First Bus for, it believes, positively striving towards an inclusive working environment, and promoting gender equality within its workforce.
