International Workers Memorial Day

The motion

That the Parliament joins together to commemorate International Workers Memorial Day on28 April 2023; notes that this day started in Canada in 1984 as its NationalDay of Mourning for people who tragically did not return from work, and is nowcommemorated all around the world, with events in Scotland taking place since1992; congratulates Scottish Hazards, the health and safety champion forworkers who are not yet unionised and their families, on its successful pursuitof establishing the commemoration of this day across all 32 local authorityareas, either by turning their building lights purple or lowering flags, asScottish Government buildings have done since 2012, and notes that, this year,there are 19 ceremonies taking place across the length and breadth of thecountry to allow families and friends to remember their loved ones whose liveswere lost at work.
