Bihar Diwas 2023
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Bihari Community of Scotland on organising the successful Bihar Diwas celebrations on 25 March 2023; recognises the importance of Bihar Diwas Day, on 22 March, in commemorating the formation of the state of Bihar (eastern India) in 1912; acknowledges the efforts of the Indian Consulate in Edinburgh in organising an event attended by 300 people from various Scottish cities, including Indian and Scottish dignitaries; further acknowledges all the attendees’ efforts in getting to the celebrations despite weather warnings; understands that celebrations took place in Glasgow, in which the Balagokulam team, in collaboration with Shankar Beats, delivered a folk dance on a song highlighting the cultural prides and historical personalities of the Mithila region of Bihar; commends Sushmitaji and friends for accepting the task of coordinating the performance in just two weeks; hopes for the continued success of the Bihari community in Scotland in the future, and wishes the very best to all those involved in the Bihari Day celebrations.
