Balerno High School Rights Respecting Schools Gold Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Balerno High School on being awarded Gold by UNICEF UK's Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA) programme; understands that the award is given to schools that create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured, they are able to thrive, and where those values are part of daily school life; appreciates that, in 2022, Balerno High School was previously given the Silver Award; notes that, to progress to Gold, the school sought to embed the rights included in the UNCRC across the whole school community; understands that the Balerno High School RRSA Pupil Steering Group is campaigning for the Toilet Twinning organisation, which has the aim of helping people across the world who do not have access to toilets; praises the Pupil Steering Group on its intention to involve local community groups to make Balerno a Toilet Twinned Village, and commends the leadership and coordination work carried out by the Balerno High School’s Rights Respecting Schools Group.
