The motion

That the Parliament congratulates social enterprise, Bridge 8 Hub, Edinburgh’s first canal-based outdoor activity hub, on its 10th anniversary; notes that the aim of the organisation is to breakdown the social, financial, and cultural barriers that prohibit families, individuals, young people and groups from participating in outdoor activities; understands that the hub provides taster sessions and more adventurous trips and activities, which include canoeing, raft-building, kayaking, Fatyak kayaking, akwakating, stand-up paddle boarding, archery, mountain biking, and use of a rock-climbing tower; commends the dedication and commitment of Sean Barry and the team at Bridge 8 Hub; understands that there has been a significant increase in families from across Edinburgh and the Lothians visiting Bridge 8 Hub and participating in the activities on offer, many of whom, it believes, would otherwise not be in a position to access such opportunities; believes that the Union Canal and the adjacent green spaces play a vital role in enhancing family life across the various socioeconomic backgrounds, and wishes all involved continued success in working with other local agencies, including the City of Edinburgh Council outdoor learning team.
