National Literacy Trust Launches First Literacy Hub in Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of Read Dundee, the first National Literacy Trust (NLT) Hub in Scotland, and the latest of 17 across the UK; believes that, as the first Hub in Scotland, Read Dundee is an encapsulation of the importance of using a place-based approach to deliver the literacy needs within a community, characterised by a mix of strategic local partnerships, community campaigns and targeted programmatic activity in early years settings and schools; understands that, through the Read Dundee Hub programme, NLT and local partner organisations have made a 10-year commitment to raise literacy levels across the city and equip children with the skills that they need to succeed in life; notes that community partners include Dundee Bairns, Dundee Carers, Homestart Dundee, Dundee City Council, Tayside Family Nurse Partnership, Dundee Contemporary Arts, V&A Dundee, and the Scottish Book Trust; recognises what it sees as the importance of using a place-based approach to target low literacy rates, as well as the importance of investing in early years learning; hopes that Read Dundee will have a huge impact in the community for years to come, and wishes everyone involved success going forward.
