International Workers' Memorial Day 2023

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that every year on 28 April, all around the world, the trade union movement unites to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day (IWMD) to remember those who have lost their lives as a result of accidents, injuries or illnesses caused at work, and renew commitments to fight for the living and make work safer for everyone; highlights Unison’s position that the UK Government’s Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill is a threat for all workers as it would create a countdown to the expiry of vital protections in the workplace by the end of 2023 when vast swathes of health and safety legislation for workers would be removed from UK law; commends efforts by trade unions during every IWMD to organise collectively to prevent more deaths, injuries and disease as a result of work, as well as to remember those who have been lost; congratulates the STUC for organising IWMD events throughout Scotland, and encourages everyone to take part.
